White Beaked Dolphin

Physical Description
White-beaked
Dolphin are large and very robust
dolphins.
Their body is mostly
black with white bands on each side . Their stomach is white so
is their beak as you can in their name. But the beak is not always
white.
They
can be confused with Atlantic
White Sided Dolphins. But White Beaked Dolphins are larger
and Atlantic White Sided Dolphins have a yellow band on either
side.
They
can be up to 3m (as a Mini car) but females are smaller. They
can weigh 275 kg which is as much heavy as 9 sheep.
Feeding
White
Beaked Dolphins eat squid,
molluscs,
crustaceans,
octopus and fish such as cod, haddock...
Behaviour
White
beaked Dolphins usually swim in small groups of 2-50 individuals.
They are often seen
feeding with Fin
Whales.
They
are attracted by boats and often bow ride. They are very acrobatic
and fast swimmers.
Threats
White
Beaked Dolphins are threatened by pollution,
they can also be caught in fishing nets or ice.
