The longest dives made by whales have been recorded to last nearly two

hours! Sperm whales can hold their breath for an incredibly long time, extract

much more oxygen from the air and use it more effeciently than humans.  The

longest a human has held their breath (and lived) is 8 minutes and 24

seconds (...BUT PLEASE don't try this at home.)
