Sponsor or name a whaleThrough the work of HWDT and some of our partners and sponsors, many of the whales and dolphins sighted in Hebridean waters have been identified individually through a technique called Photo-Identification. For a small contribution, you can sponsor a Minke Whale or a Bottlenose Dolphin. If you want to go a step further, you can even name your very own Minke Whale for yourself or a family member or friend! In doing so, you will be helping HWDT to continue their research on these special animals. Sponsor a Minke Whale, Bottlenose Dolphin or Orca and you will receive:
There are three Minke Whales that frequent the waters off Mull during the summer months that need sponsorship. Their names are: To find out more about each Minke Whale click on a name above to view its profile. There are also two Bottlenose Dolphins that are sighted across a huge part of our study area which are in need of sponsorship. Their names are: To find out more about each Bottlenose Dolphin click on a name above to view its profile. Orca (Killer Whales): John Coe and Floppy Fin are part of a group of Orca which frequent the water between Skye and Coll. Floppy Fin got his name because his dorsal fin curls right over. Here is a photograph of the Orca named John Coe, notice the female in the background has a much smaller dorsal fin.
Name a Scottish Whale!
The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust has been identifying Minke whales through photo-identification for the last 10 years. Of the 82 minke whales identified to date, many have been spotted returning to Hebridean waters over several years. We are now offering you the unique opportunity to name your very own whale! The Minke whale is a distinctive looking whale, sleek and long, with a pointed head. They are quite common in the Hebrides over the summer months. Minke whales tend to be quite curious and often circle the whale-watching boats - as curious about us as we are about them perhaps!
