Photo-ID: Be a Marine Scientist

Aims:

•  to develop understanding of what photo-ID is and how it is used in research

•  to develop observational and group work skills

Activity:

•  Initially students would benefit from discussion of the content in the background information sheet (pdf)

•  Students are to match the numbered dorsal fin shots with the named catalogue shots on the photo-ID ‘board'. This is probably best done in groups. The resource needs to be prepared so that the numbered fin shots (pdf) are cut up into separate cards which can then be moved around and placed onto the ID board   (pdf)

•  Here is another photo-ID board  (pdf) with cards (pdf) to use as an alternative, or in combination with the other boards (to make the activity more challenging e.g. for P4+)

Answers:    Photo-ID 1 (pdf)                 Photo-ID 2 (pdf)
