One of the core aims of the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust is to educate a wide range of people about the marine environment with a focus on whales, dolphins and porpoises. The Trust believes that by educating people about the marine environment we are contributing to safeguard biodiversity now and for the future. We are educating the citizens and decision makers of tomorrow.
Our education programme is delivered throughout the west coast of Scotland and teaches people of all ages and backgrounds about the local species of this area and related concepts and issues. In order to meet the needs of a diversity of people we provide a great variety of educational activities in a range of locations. HWDT’s work in the formal education system includes School Visits to provide classroom learning, and outdoor learning on Silurian and on the beach. Informal education is offered through activities including beach workshops, interpretation in our Visitors Centre and Shop, talks, attendance at events, website, newsletter publications, work with volunteers and beach clean ups.
We have also produced a bank of free teaching resources that cover a wide range of topics.
There is also an exclusive area of our website that is Just for Kids.
