Courses

By offering courses to interested adults, HWDT aims to increase knowledge and understanding of cetacean species of the Scottish west coast and additionally of cetacean research. HWDT believes that by raising levels of understanding we are contributing to safeguard the marine environment and its species.

Unfortunately we don't have the resources available to run a Marine Mammal Course in 2013. Subscribe to the e-newsletter to receive information on HWDTs 2013 activities.

HWDT's Marine Mammal Course combines practical presentations and discussions on marine mammal biology, ecology and conservation with hands-on fieldwork experience onboard our research yacht Silurian. It aims to educate participants about cetaceans with a focus on species found on the west coast of Scotland and provides training and first-hand experience of cetacean monitoring.  The course runs from Friday night to Sunday late afternoon in accordance with ferry departures and arrivals.  Participation costs £200, excluding accommodation and travel expenses.

You don’t need any in-depth prior knowledge of whales, dolphins and porpoises to join and enjoy this course, just a genuine enthusiasm to learn and get involved. The course is aimed at all who have an interest in marine life and wish to know more.  Please note that this is not a whale watching trip.
